Rangpur Medical College was established during the period of East Pakistan in 1970. Munaim Khan placed the institution of this Medical College in 1969. This College started with fifty students in its first batch. Now each year, one hundred and seventy five students get admitted here for MBBS course. There are also several postgraduate courses including DCH, DFM, MS, MD and MD in Pediatrics.

It is a fully residential College with facilities of enough doctors’ quarter. There also a central mosque, playground and gymnasium for students. There are three hostels built for boys and two hostels for the girl students. Beside these three are divided doctor’s hostels for ladies and gents for the trainee doctors. Each year ten seats are fixed particularly for international students. At present it is running fortieth batch.

The medical college is running with some other joined teaching hospitals in addition to its own. The nuclear medicine center is new inclusions in 1991. The coronary care unit, viral disease control and training unit also included into this. Beside medicine unit there are surgery, radiotherapy, physical medicine department, and burn unit also available here. The General Medical Council of the United Kingdom has familiar the alumnae of this college with result from 1^st January 1996. There are about one hundred and eighty five staffs serve for this institute.

The admission test procedure of undergraduate MBBS course is performed by the Director of Medical Education under DGHS. It works under the Ministry of Health. The admission test is MCQ based exam. A lot of students participate at Rangpur Medical College.


Rangpur Medical College is located in Rangpur City. It is about three hundred and thirty kilometers away from Dhaka. It is placed in the northwest part of the city of Rangpur. This place is well connected by rail, road and air among the capital city Dhaka.
